Sally HeCello Instructor Sally holds a Master of Music in Performance, having studied under Toronto Symphony Orchestra Principal Cellist Joseph Johnson and renowned teacher Shauna Rolston Shaw. She has served in principal roles with youth orchestras and the University of Toronto Opera Orchestra. As both a soloist and chamber musician, Sally has had the privilege of participating in masterclasses with the Juilliard String Quartet, the Brentano String Quartet, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet. As a dedicated teacher, she is passionate about sharing her love for music with her students, inspiring them to find joy in every note. |
Dr. Cynthia YauCello Instructor Dr. Cynthia Yau is a dedicated musician and music educator from Hong Kong. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Music in Cello Performance from the University of Iowa (where she earned a full scholarship), and a Bachelor of Music Education from Hong Kong Baptist University, with a focus on Double Bass and Piano. Dr. Yau has performed as both a chamber and orchestra musician, securing multiple symphonic positions in Hong Kong and the United States. A strong believer in the power of music to connect people, she has performed in diverse settings, including orphanages, senior homes, prisons, public parks, and carnivals. With over 14 years of experience, Dr. Yau is a devoted educator who has taught students of all ages and skill levels. She has also coached small ensembles and chamber orchestras at both elementary and high school levels. Cynthia emphasizes the importance of organic learning, fostering both musicality and personality in her students. Through experimentation and reflection, she helps students cultivate the skills and confidence to meet the demands of any composition, while nurturing their perseverance, openness, and self-assurance. |
Joseph ChoiCello Instructor Previously studied at Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, Joseph is the recipient of the Premier Young Artist Award and Music Faculty Award. In the past, he was a scholarship student at the Phil and Eli Taylor Academy of the Glenn Gould School in the Royal Conservatory of Music. Joseph has won multiple awards and prizes in the Kiwanis Music Competition. He attended the Heifetz Institute in 2016, where his quartet was selected to perform and record a music video. He attended the Sitka International Cello Seminar in summer 2019, where he studied and performed with Zuill Bailey and Melissa Kraut. |
